As you are well aware, renovations will be in full swing this summer as CPS gets our new building ready for the start of school. In order for work to being on our play area, CPS needs to have the parcel of land in-between the school building and the Rawson Estate zoned for play use from residential. The city will have a hearing to address this request and hopefully approve it Friday, June 7th at 10AM.
There has been some confusion regarding this variance change request so to clarify: the hearing on June 7th is only relevant to the piece of land that will be used as a play area (3727 Clifton Avenue). There is no request to change the zoning for the Rawson estate itself or the piece of land that the Rawson driveway sits on.
Even something as simple and non-controversial as a playscape has its detractors, so we hope to show the city that many of us support this change and express that our school's children need to have a place to play.
